Elements are a type of resource in No Man's Sky. They use a periodic table made up of real-life elements and minerals, as well as some fictional elements that Hello Games created to keep the sci-fi feel to the game. Elements are mined and gathered from planets, asteroids, as well as trace amounts from flora, they are used to create alloys and technology upgrades for the Exosuit, Starships, and Multi-tools.

There are eight divisions of elements: catalyst, earth, exotic, flora, fuel, metal, special and stellar.


List of elements[]

Catalyst Elements[]

These elements are found in all planets in the form of either yellow flowers, or crystals.

  • Sodium is an unrefined catalytic element, found from yellow flowers, minerals, or resource deposits.
  • Sodium Nitrate is a refined catalytic element, found in yellow crystal formations on planets, or refining Sodium .

Earth Elements[]

These elements are commonly found on planets. Specific elements are found on specific planets.

  • Salt is an aquatic mineral extract, commonly found in underwater minerals.
  • Chlorine is a processed aquatic mineral, obtained by refining Salt .
  • Cyto-Phosphate is an organic compound, mined from underwater Flora.
  • Cobalt is a subterranean mineral, mainly found in caves, or resource deposits.
  • Ionised Cobalt is a processed subterranean mineral, obtained only from refining Cobalt .
  • Di-hydrogen is a high energy substance, found in crystals in all planets.
  • Deuterium is a high energy substance. Occurring rarely naturally, it's usually crafted from Tritium and Di-hydrogen .
  • Mordite is a harvested substance, found from killing fauna, or harvested from Mordite Root.
  • Nitrogen is a compressed atmospheric gas, usually found on Lush and Toxic planets.
  • Radon is a compressed atmospheric gas, usually found on Radioactive and Frozen planets.
  • Sulphurine is a compressed atmospheric gas, usually found on Scorched or Desert planets.
  • Ammonia is a localized earth element, found on Toxic planets.
  • Basalt is a localized earth element, found on Volcanic planets.
  • Dioxite is a localized earth element, found on Frozen planets.
  • Paraffinium is a localized earth element, found on Tropical planets.
  • Phosphorus is a localized earth element, found on Scorched planets.
  • Pyrite is a localized earth element, found on Deserted planets.
  • Uranium is a localized earth element, found on Radioactive planets.

Exotic Elements[]

These elements are found typically on asteroids. They can also be found on planets, although it is rarer.

  • Tritium is a neutron-rich fuel element, typically mined from asteroids.
  • Gold is a valuable asteroid mineral, also found on asteroids, or rarely found in minerals.
  • Silver is a valuable asteroid mineral, typically found in asteroids, or rarely in minerals.
  • Platinum is a valuable asteroid mineral, mined from crystallized asteroids. Also can be refined from Gold , and Silver .

Flora Elements[]

These elements are harvested from specific flora. Different flora grow on specific biomes. All flora elements are harvested agricultural substances.

  • Cactus Flesh is found from the Echinocactus plant on Desert planets.
  • Faecium is recovered from feeding creatures. Also found as a secondary element on some flora.
  • Frost Crystal is harvested from Frostwort growing on Frozen planets.
  • Fungal Mould is harvested from Fungal Clusters on Toxic planets.
  • Gamma Root is harvested from the Gamma Weed plants in Radioactive planets.
  • Kelp Sac are harvested from underwater Candle Kelp plants. They are not compatible with a hydroponic tray.
  • Marrow Bulb is harvested from the Cave Marrows growing in caves.
  • Solanium are harvested from the Solar Vine plants, found on Scorched planets.
  • Star Bulb is harvested from the Star Bramble, typically found in Lush planets.

Fuel Elements[]

These elements are common to almost all worlds.

  • Carbon is an unrefined organic element, found in nearly all flora.
  • Condensed Carbon is a refined organic element, found in either crystals, or refined from Carbon .
  • Oxygen is a concentrated liquid fuel, powering the Life Support systems of a Traveler. Usually found in red plants.

Metallic Elements[]

These elements are mainly used for refining, or crafting.

  • Ferrite Dust is a metallic mineral extract, found in all minerals.
  • Pure Ferrite is a processed metallic mineral, found in larger minerals, or refined from Ferrite Dust .
  • Magnetised Ferrite is a charged metallic element, refined from Pure Ferrite .
  • Silicate Powder is an abundant mineral, found in ALL planets. Extractable using a Terrain Manipulator.

Special Elements[]

These elements are obtained via special ways, and don't fit into any other categories.

  • Rusted Metal is junk. Can be refined into Ferrite Dust .
  • Residual Goop is junk. Can be refined into Viscous Fluids .
  • Viscous Fluids is junk. Can be refined into Living Slime .
  • Living Slime is junk. Can be refined into Runaway Mould .
  • Runaway Mould is junk, but can be refined into useable Nanite Clusters .
  • Nanite Cluster is a technological currency, used for upgrades and blueprints.
  • Chromatic Metal is a highly refined stellar metal, having a lot of applications.
  • Hexite is an unrefined organic element. Rewarded during the Starbirth mission, or Nexus missions.
  • Liquid Sun is a transmuted metal, extracted using a Solar Ray.
  • Pugneum is an anomalous material, retrieved from destroyed Sentinels.

Stellar Elements[]

These elements are found on planets orbiting different stars. Activated counterparts are found on extreme planets.

All of these can be refined into Chromatic Metal .

  • Copper is a yellow refined stellar metal found on planets orbiting yellow stars.
  • Activated Copper is a yellow refined stellar metal found on extreme planets orbiting yellow stars.
  • Cadmium is a red refined stellar metal found on planets orbiting red stars.
  • Activated Cadmium is a red refined stellar metal found on extreme planets orbiting red stars.
  • Emeril is a green refined stellar metal found on planets orbiting green stars.
  • Activated Emeril is a green refined stellar metal found on extreme planets orbiting green stars.
  • Indium is a blue refined stellar metal found on planets orbiting blue stars.
  • Activated Indium is a blue refined stellar metal found on extreme planets orbiting blue stars. It is the most expensive element.
